About Gabriel Meyer

Gabriel Meyer, born on 5 April 1989, is a pianist and composer based in Zurich, Switzerland. He began playing the piano at sixteen after hearing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Three years later, he entered Zurich University of the Arts, where he studied classical piano with Adalbert Roetschi and completed his music studies with a master’s degree in 2013.

Supported by the Lyra Foundation from 2009 to 2011 and by the Elsy Meyer Foundation, he continued his training over several years as a private student of Norman Shetler in Vienna. As a soloist and chamber musician, he performed in Switzerland and neighbouring European countries, including at the UBS Philanthropy Forum at Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz and at Propstei St. Gerold in Vorarlberg.

At eighteen, Meyer experienced a single episode of trance-like playing in which a complex piece emerged without conscious planning. A recording preserved the music, but the experience remained isolated for many years.

In 2024, after many years without composing, this way of creating returned. Meyer began recording free, intuitive sessions at the piano. From these sessions, the Remember cycle emerged as a whole within a short period. He subsequently transcribed, shaped and refined the recorded material into finished compositions.

His debut album, Remember: Piano Works, Vol. 1, was released on 15 May 2026. It comprises ten works presented across seventeen tracks and closes with the eight-part What Remains. His music lies between classical and neoclassical music, and his classical training remains the foundation of his work.
