Gabriel Meyer (b. April 5, 1989) is a pianist with an extraordinary path. He only began playing the piano at the age of sixteen – prompted by an encounter with Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, which moved him so deeply that he resolved in that very moment to devote his life to music and to become a pianist. Just three years later, he passed the entrance examination to the Zurich University of the Arts, where in 2013 he completed a Master of Arts in Piano Classical under Prof. Adalbert Roetschi.

As a young pianist, Meyer received support from the Lyra Foundation (2009–2011) as well as the Elsy Meyer Foundation, and he was for many years a private student of Norman Shetler in Vienna. Concert engagements led him as a soloist and chamber musician both in Switzerland and abroad, among others to the Philanthropy Forum of UBS at the Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz and to the Propstei St. Gerold in Vorarlberg.

At the age of eighteen, Meyer experienced a moment that would later prove to be decisive: in a state of near-total unconsciousness, he played a piece without realizing the complexity of the structures that emerged. Only thanks to a recording was this moment preserved – a work he still regards as the unfiltered expression of his musical self: “That is me, that is my music.”

In 2024, this state returned with new clarity. It is neither improvisation nor composition – it is moments in which his music flows directly from within. While he plays, he is in a kind of trance; only when listening back to the recordings does it become clear what has taken shape in those moments.

From this experience arose a creative process that, a year later, resulted in a first album. His music is introspective, lyrical, touched with spirituality; a language of the subconscious. He himself describes it as ‘a revelation of my innermost being in all its vulnerability’ – something profoundly personal that he shares with the world. In 2025, Meyer released his debut album – as a summation of this first creative phase and as the beginning of a path devoted entirely to his own music.
